Specific project work consisted of the dredging and excavation of impacted soils located in Gloucester Inner Harbor. Wastewater was derived from three separate activities including mechanical dredging, hydraulic dredging and transportation. LRT designed and installed two separate water treatment systems to support the project.
One water treatment system was rated for a treatment capacity of 100 gallons per minute (gpm) and the other treatment system was rated for 1,000 gpm. The 100 gpm water treatment system was constructed within an insulated, heated and lighted conex box and was staged on a barge that operated on the water. The larger 1,000 gpm water treatment system was located on shore and enclosed in a heavy duty, heated tent. The primary contaminants of concern in the waste stream included total suspended solids (TSS), volatile organic compounds (VOCs), semi-volatile organic compounds (SVCOs) and metals.
