The project included construction of approximately a 2.6 million square-foot integrated resort casino over approximately 34 acres located along the waterfront of the Mystic River in Everett, Massachusetts. LRT and Sanborn, Head & Associates, Inc. designed a deep well depressurization and dewatering system to facilitate the construction of an approximately 310,000 square-foot below grade parking garage and the installation of a 36-inch diameter bypass line located south of the proposed parking garage. A 30-inch thick slurry wall was installed 1 foot into bedrock around the perimeter of the proposed below grade parking garage prior to excavation.
LRT installed a deep well dewatering system and a water treatment system for the project. Specifically, thirteen (13) deep wells were installed within the excavation area to provide dry conditions. LRT installed two (2) custom water treatment systems rated for up to 500 gallons per minute (gpm) to help tackle this major excavation project. The water treatment system(s) discharged treated water back to the Mystic in accordance with a NPDES Remediation General Permit (RGP). Primary contaminants of concern included total suspended solids (TSS), volatile organic compounds (VOCs), semi-volatile organic compounds (SVOCs) and total metals.
