The project involved the removal and treatment of 1.2 million gallons of sludge contained in a secondary digester located at the Deer Island Sewage Treatment Plant. Specifically, water was initially vacuumed out of the digesters and consolidated. Sludge was then pumped from vacuum boxes via an inline chopper pump prior to entering the treatment train which concluded with a belt press system. The dewatered “cake” was transported and disposed off site at an approved receiving facility.
LRT designed and provided the sludge management system to tackle this project. LRT also winterized the treatment system and provided operation and maintenance (O&M) of the treatment system for the duration of the project.
