Former Chelsea Clock

Specific project work included the excavation of impacted soil across the site.  LRT installed, maintained, and provided a temporary on-site water treatment system rated for up to 100 gallons per minute (gpm). The water treatment system(s) discharged treated water back to the Mystic River in accordance with a NPDES Remediation General Permit (RGP).  The water treatment system was located within the exclusion zone of the site.  Therefore, LRT was required to receive site-specific radiation training to perform work on this project.

The primary contaminants of concern in the waste stream included:

  • Total Suspended Solids (TSS)
  • Chlorinated volatile organic compounds (CVOCs)
  • Heavy metals
  • Polynuclear aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs)
  • Petroleum hydrocarbons
  • Radium-226 (Ra-266)
  • Manufactured Gas Plant Related Compounds (MGPs)
