NSTAR

Specific project work consisted of the dredging and remediation of the coal tar-impacted sediment of the Inner Slip and a portion of the Outer Slip within the Acushnet River adjacent to the NSTAR facility located in New Bedford, Massachusetts.

LRT provided a water treatment system to support this remediation project that was designed to treat for total suspended solids (TSS), volatile organic compounds (VOCs) and polynuclear aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) reduction and polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs), metals and cyanide at a maximum flow rate of 100 gallons per minute (gpm). Following bulk settling of the dredged material, decanted water was pumped to the treatment system consisting of secondary solid separation via the addition of coagulant and flocculant, pH adjustment, primary filtration, carbon adsorbers and a secondary polishing filtration.
